War Memorial for the Fallen Dutch Soldiers during May 1940 – Boskoop, The Netherlands

In Boskoop, a small village in the Netherlands, stands a memorial for fallen men during World War Two. On this monument are two rows of names. The left row holds the names of Soldiers from Boskoop who fell during the first day of the war in the Netherlands on the 10th of May in 1940. On the right panel are the names of resistance warriors who left their lives during the war. The memorial was erected in September 1948. There are 5 more names on a memorial plate next to this Second World War memorial. This plate is dedicated to Dutch Soldiers who lost their live in Indonesia.

The text on the World War Two memorial reads: “Zij Stierven Voor Ons” 1940 -1945 which means: “They Died For Us”

The text one the Dutch-Indië monument reads: “Zij Bleven Achter” which means: “They stayed behind”
