Unfortunately the Bastogne Ardennes ’44 Museum closed not long after LandmarkScout visited it, but we can honestly assure you we had nothing to do with it!
To write an article about a museum which can’t be visited any longer seems odd but the museum had a great and huge cellar dedicated to the Battle for the Bulge and the Battle for the Ardennes. The basement was one big diorama, most beautifully created with trenches, vehicles, mannequins, barbed wire, sounds and lights.
The Roka bakelite headlight. The flash light is attached under a German helmet with a supporting headband on this photo but was used in the Luftwaffe for reading maps on night flights.
Stuka zu Fuss
Stuka zu Fuss are Schwerer Wurfrahmen an Schützenpanzer or Walking Stuka – launch frames attached to the side of the German Halftrack Sd.Kfz. 251 or other vehicles; as can be seen on the photo from the Bundesarchive (101I-216-0417-09 by Dieck). These frames held 280 – 300mm High Explosive Rockets or 320 incendiary rockets and supported panzer units in urban areas. These rockets were not as accurate as artillery but were succesfull in urban areas.
The smaller dioramas on the top floor were evenly stunning. So even if the museum has closed somewhere in or after 2016 we love to share our photos with you. Let’s hope it opens again in the near future.
Super museum, maar is helaas permanent gesloten.
