The former villa of Joseph Goebbels lies at the Bogensee, a small lake just 15 kilometers north of Berlin.
Joseph Goebbels was Nazi minister of propaganda and had many houses, one in the city of Rheydt, two in Berlin at the Wansee and more spread out over Germany. The Bogensee lake with a log cabin was a gift for his 39th birthday from the city of Berlin. He used the house, more a hunting lodge, as Love nest, he invited celebrities from the artistic scene and politicians. The little house was soon outdated and Josep needed a larger one to meet his standards. He had a new country estate built at the other side of the lake.
The Villa had 30 rooms and a floor area of 1600 m2. There was a farm building and a guest house with a meeting room which also housed SS guards. With the increasing number of air raids on Berlin the house received a bunker in 1944.
The villa had a home cinema, barely visible air conditioning, retractable windows and rooms with two fireplaces.
After the war the Russians took over the SS barracks and in 1950 the area around the former Goebbels estate was turned into a youth college – FDJ, Freie Deutsche Jugend (Free German Youth).
