Polderhuis Westkapelle is a museum and cultural center located in a historic building once used by the local water board. It focuses on two major themes:
1. The battle against the sea
Westkapelle has a long history of protecting its land from the sea. The museum showcases how dikes were built and maintained through the centuries, and how the local people—especially the “dike workers”—contributed to the safety and development of the region.
2. World War II and the Liberation
Westkapelle was heavily bombed in 1944 during Operation Infatuate (a part of Battle of the Scheldt), when the Allies destroyed parts of the dike to flood the area and drive out German troops. The museum displays eyewitness stories, wartime photos and films, artifacts from the war (including parts of ships and bombs) and a post-war reconstruction of the town.

There are historical items, and a place to relax in the museum garden and a memorial and Sherman tank on the dike. If the panoramic light house is open you can climb the tower (via the museum) for a stunning view of the town, dikes, and the North Sea.
