Walter Model was a German field marshal during World War II, known for his defensive command abilities on the Eastern and Western Fronts. He served in several major operations, including battles in Russia and the defense of the Ruhr region. Loyal to Adolf Hitler, Model was often tasked with stabilizing critical situations. He commanded Army Group Center during Operation Bagration and later led forces against the Western Allies. As defeat became inevitable, he dissolved his army group and committed suicide on April 21, 1945. He was regarded as a competent, pragmatic, and ruthless military leader.
