The Korean Atomic Bomb Victims Cenotaph, located within Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, honors the thousands of Korean people who perished in the atomic bombing of August 6, 1945. During World War II, many Koreans were brought to Japan as forced laborers, and an estimated 20,000 were in Hiroshima when the bomb was dropped. About half of them died instantly or shortly afterward.

The cenotaph, originally built in 1970 by the Korean Residents Union in Japan, was later moved into the Peace Memorial Park in 1999 to promote unity and shared remembrance. The monument features a traditional Korean-style stone tomb topped with a turtle base and inscribed with the words “Souls of the dead rise to heaven.” It stands as a symbol of reconciliation, peace, and recognition of the suffering endured by Korean victims of the atomic bombing.
