Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, located at the heart of Hiroshima, Japan, was established to honor the victims of the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945, and to promote the message of lasting world peace. The park stands on the site most devastated by the explosion and includes important landmarks such as the Genbaku Dome or Atomic Bomb Dome, the Peace Memorial Museum, the Children’s Peace Monument, and the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims, which lists the names of all who lost their lives. Designed by architect Kenzō Tange, the park is both a place of remembrance and reflection. Each year, on August 6, thousands gather for the Peace Memorial Ceremony to mourn the victims and renew the commitment to abolish nuclear weapons and ensure such tragedy never happens again.
