This museum is mainly focused on the presence of the Royal Air Force Germany (RAFG) on RAF Laarbruch Airbase during the Cold War from 1954 to 1999. But a small section of the exhibition is also dedicated to the Second World War, when the airfield was an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) of the RAF designated B-100 Goch between 4 March and late April of 1945. It was the first RAF airfield on German soil.
The museum opened to the general public in 2007 and is located in three diverse buildings.
World War Two
The items on exhibit from the WWII period are mostly gathered in one room. Most interesting is the small collection of bombs, like the US M82 cluster bomb, a 127mm projectile for the Canadian “Land Mattress” rocket launcher and a British RP-3 Anti-Armor rocket (Rocket Projectile 3inch) to arm Aircraft like the Hawker Typhoon, Mosquito and the Liberator. The Sherman “Tulip” Tank was also fitted with the rocket.
