As head of the Department IV B4 of the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA), Eichmann was responsible for the deportation of Jews to concentration and extermination camps. After the war, he fled to Argentina, where he was captured by Israeli agents in 1960. Eichmann was tried in Israel for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other offenses. He was convicted and executed by hanging in 1962, becoming one of the most infamous figures of the Holocaust.
