The atomic bomb was a revolutionary and devastating weapon used during World War II. In August 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, causing unprecedented destruction and loss of life. These bombings led to Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II. The bombs unleashed massive explosions and radiation, killing tens of thousands instantly and many more later from radiation sickness.
