The Battle of Kursk, fought between July 5 and August 23, 1943, was the largest tank battle in history and a decisive turning point on the Eastern Front of World War II. German forces, led by Field Marshal Manstein, launched Operation Citadel to encircle Soviet defenses. However, the Soviets, anticipating the attack, fortified their positions. The resulting Soviet victory weakened German forces and halted their eastward expansion, shifting the momentum in favor of the Allies.
