Ernst Röhm was a German military officer and leader of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazi Party’s paramilitary wing. He played a significant role in Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, using the SA to intimidate political opponents. Röhm was a key figure in the early Nazi regime, advocating for a “second revolution” to redistribute wealth and enhance the SA’s power. However, his increasing influence and rivalry with other Nazi leaders led to his downfall. In June 1934, during the Night of the Long Knives, Röhm was arrested and executed on Hitler’s orders, eliminating him as a threat.
