Stalag Luft III

Stalag III was a German POW camp in Silesia, primarily housing Allied airmen capturd during World War II. It became infamous for the 1944 escape, known as The Great Escape, where 76 prisoners tunneled out of the camp. The escape involved meticulous planning and coordination. Although 73 escapers were recaptured, many were executed by the Gestapo. The camp’s security measures and escape efforts were later widely documented in books and films
