This bunker was part of “Widerstandsnest 27” of the German Atlantic Wall and still houses a 5cm Kwk (Panzerabwehrkanone) like it had during the D-day landings on Juno Beach in 1944. The bunker is next to a memorial for the 48th Royal Marine Commando’s and the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.
The bunker was almost impregnable from the beach and the boardwalk. During the landings on the 6th of June 1944, it had put the first Allied tanks out of action. It was only silenced after a heavy armored attack by three tanks. A large impact of a tank grenade can still be seen on the left flank of the bunker.
