The Nottinghamshire Yeomanry, also known as the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, is a historic British Army unit with origins dating back to 1794. Formed initially as a volunteer cavalry force to defend Britain against invasion, the regiment developed a strong local identity tied to Nottinghamshire and nearby counties.

During the Second World War, the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry was converted from traditional cavalry to an armoured regiment. Equipped mainly with Sherman tanks, the unit served with the 8th Armoured Brigade and played an important role in the Allied campaign in northwest Europe. The Sherwood Rangers landed in Normandy shortly after D-Day in June 1944 and fought through France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, including actions during Operation Market Garden and the advance into Germany.

The regiment earned a reputation for effectiveness, discipline, and resilience in combat. After the war, the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry continued in various forms within the British Army Reserve. Today, its legacy is preserved through regimental associations, memorials, and historical research, honoring the service and sacrifice of its soldiers.
