The Battle of Walcheren Causeway, fought from October 31 to November 2, 1944, was a key engagement during the Battle of the Scheldt in World War II. The Canadian 2nd Division, supported by British forces, attempted to seize the narrow causeway connecting South Beveland to Walcheren Island in the Netherlands. The objective was to clear German defenses controlling access to the port of Antwerp. The causeway, exposed and mined, was heavily defended, resulting in fierce and costly fighting. Though initial gains were limited, the operation paved the way for amphibious assaults that secured the island.
