The Free French Forces (FFI) were formed in 1940 under the leadership of General Charles de Gaulle after France’s surrender to Nazi Germany. Refusing to accept defeat, de Gaulle called on French soldiers and citizens to continue fighting alongside the Allies. The Free French fought in campaigns across North Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, contributing significantly to the liberation of France in 1944. Their determination symbolized national resistance, unity, and the enduring fight for freedom against occupation and tyranny during World War II.
