The Taunton Stop Line was a World War II defensive line in southwest England, built in 1940 to slow a potential German invasion. Stretching over 50 miles from the north coast near Highbridge to the south coast near Seaton, it included over 300 concrete pillboxes, anti-tank obstacles, and trenches. Defended by the Home Guard, its purpose was to delay enemy forces and protect key inland areas. Though never used in battle, it remains a significant example of Britain’s wartime defense strategy.
The Taunton Stop Line was also named the Bridgwater Stop Line in later years.
