This main guard post or “Hauptwache” stood at the entrance to the army research site Peenemünde Ost and the Peenemünde West Luftwaffe testing facilities during World War Two. The guard post served as the main check point for road traffic. Because of the secrecy of the activities at the research center, there were strict security regulations. The facilities were divided into different zones that required the appropriate authorisation. Employees carried special ID cards and badges, the latter visibly on their clothes, to gain access.

With the expansion of the research facilities in later years, multiple entrances with guard posts were established. At the end of the war the guard post was demolished. Today only the foundations of the former Hauptwache remain.
Visit
There really isn’t much to see anymore. You can find the foundations at the T-crossing of the L264 and the Flughafenring.
UPDATE: In later years after our visit, the site was cleaned and the foundations and part of the original road uncovered as part of a student-project.
