This memorial commemorates the former Parola Airfield used by the Finnish Air Force and for civilian aviation and to honor the six young pilots who died in Parola during the Winter War while performing ice-based flight operations in Tyrväntö.
The memorial was unveiled on May 11, 1996.

The memorial bears the emblem of the Hämeenlinna Air Bridge, which depicts two elements of flight: a propeller positioned atop wings, featuring both the wartime Hakaristi (swastika) insignia and the peacetime cockade. The Parola Airfield was in operation from 1935 to 1962.
