The Italian Alpine Corps (Corpo d’Armata Alpino) was a specialized mountain warfare unit of the Regio Esercito (Royal Italian Army) during World War II. Comprised of Alpini troops trained for combat in rugged, high-altitude environments, the corps served notably on the Eastern Front alongside German forces during Operation Barbarossa. It fought in harsh winter conditions along the Don River, suffering heavy casualties during the Soviet counteroffensives in 1942–1943.
