The Moselstellung was a German defensive fortress line built before World War I along the Moselle River between Metz and Thionville. Designed with dispersed concrete forts, armored turrets, and underground galleries, it protected Alsace-Lorraine from French attack. Though untested in World War I, its forts played a defensive role during the 1944 fighting around Metz.
