The Battle of Texel, also known as the Georgian Uprising of Texel, took place from April 5 to May 20, 1945, on the Dutch island of Texel. Georgian soldiers, formerly Soviet POWs serving in the German Wehrmacht, rebelled against their German commanders. The uprising aimed to aid the Allies but led to intense fighting. Despite initial success, the Germans suppressed the revolt. It was one of Europe’s last WWII battles.
