Major General Stanisław Maczek was a Polish officer and commander during World War II, known for his leadership of the 1st Polish Armored Division. Formed in 1942 under his command, the division fought alongside Allied forces in Western Europe, particularly in the Normandy landings and subsequent campaigns. Maczek’s division played a crucial role in liberating France and Belgium. Following the war, Maczek was unable to return to communist-controlled Poland and lived in exile in the United Kingdom. He is remembered for his military skill and contribution to the Allied war effort and is burried in Breda, The Netherlands, next to his soldiers.
