After the German invasion of Poland, the defense positions on the Hel Peninsula were expanded. One of these expansions was the installation of an early warning device, the Würzburg Riese. This radar could detect an aircraft at a distance of 30 kilometers.
After the war, the Würzburg Riese was removed, and a new fire control tower was built on the radar’s foundation for the 13th Fixed Artillery Battery.
