This memorial, also known as the “Rakuunakivi” or “Dragoon Stone”, was erected in 1946 on Adolf Ehrnrooth Square of Dragoon Hill or Rakuunamäki in Lappeenranta, Finland. It commemorates the cavalrymen who fell in the Winter and Continuation Wars between 1939 and 1944.

On one side of the monument is the emblem of the Uusimaa Dragoon Regiment, Fredrik’s monogram, and on the other side is the emblem of the Häme Cavalry Regiment, Hubertus’ deer head. The area is enclosed by a chain made of horseshoes.

The bronze memorial plaque was placed in 1996, and reads:

This monument was erected by the Uusimaa Dragoon Regiment (Uudenmaan Rakuunarykmentti) in honour and in memory of the heroes who fell in the wars of 1939-1940 and 1941-1944 under the banners of the cavalry, and to be cherished by future generations.

Visit

You can visit the memorial at Dragoon Hill on the Adolf Ehrnrooth Square in Lappeenranta. The memorial is opposite the Hotel Rakuuna.
