Hellfire Corner was a strategically important and heavily targeted area in Kent, England, during World War II, located near Dover. It earned its name due to frequent bombardments by German artillery positioned across the English Channel in occupied France, as well as repeated Luftwaffe air raids. The area included critical transportation routes—roads, railways, and communication lines—used for moving troops and supplies to coastal defenses. Its exposure made it one of the most dangerous places in Britain during the war. Despite constant attacks, it remained vital to British military operations and coastal defense strategies.
