War monument Yport, France

War monument Yport, France

In Yport, near the church, the market square, and the large car park, stands a memorial dedicated to the soldiers from Yport who fell in both world wars. It was common practice in France to erect a monument to local war dead after the Great War; these monuments were subsequently expanded after the Second World War to include the fallen soldiers from the respective towns. In addition to the soldiers lost in both world wars, the Yport memorial also lists names of those who died in Indochina and of individuals who were executed.
