This Canadian built tank was based on a United States M3 medium tank. The cupola was replaced to house a British QF 6 pounder gun. This 6-pdr gun had better armor penetrating capabilities than the American 75 mm gun. Early production Ram tanks had the QF 2 pounder gun and side doors in its hull.
The Tank Cruiser Ram was extensively used as a trainer and did not see any combat action during World War Two. However it was used as an observation post or command tank – Tank Cruiser Ram OP/ Command vehicle, as armored personnel carrier Ram Kangaroo APC and gun tractor. Or better known as self-propelled 25 pounder gun Sexton.
This Ram tank photographed at the Dutch Cavalry Museum is an OP/ Command vehicle. To house the bigger radios in the turret the gun was replaced by a mock-up wooden barrel. As fas as we know this is the only surviving Ram-OP or Observation Post left.
