Tank Cruiser Ram Mk II – Canadian Tank

This Canadian built tank was based on a United States M3 medium tank better known as M3 Grant or Lee in the United States. The cupola was replaced to house a British QF 6 pounder gun. This 6-pdr gun had better amor penetrating capabilities than the American 75 mm gun and could turn 360 degrees which the M3 Lee turret could not.

The Tank Cruiser Ram Mk II weighed 29.500 kilograms, was 5,80 meters long, 2,77 m wide and 2,67 m high. It reached a speed of 40 km/h and had a radius of 230 kilometers. It had a crew of 5 to control the tanks and the weaponry. It was armed with one QF 6 pounder and three .30 inch machineguns. One of these was coaxial with the main gun. Its armor varied from 38 to 88 mm.

The Tank Cruiser Ram was extensively used as trainer and did not see any combat action during WW2. However it was used as a observation post or command tank – Tank Cruiser Ram OP/ Command vehicle, as armored personnel carrier Ram Kangaroo APC and gun tractor. Or better known as self-propelled 25 pounder gun Sexton.
This Tank Cruiser Ram mark II was photographed at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England 2017.
