Panzerwerk 722

Ruins of Panzerwerk 722 – Oder-Warthe-bogen

Panzerwerk 722 was part of Werkgruppe York. Werkgruppe York lies north of Werkgruppe Gneisenau and south of Werkgruppe Scharnhorst. Panzerwerk 722 was built in 1938/ 1939, it was a three storey bunker.
The weaponry in Panzerwerk 722 was placed in one Sechsschartenturms 20P7, a metal machine gun post with six openings, used with specialized optics. This seemed to be the only top level defense for the Panzerwerk 722 was a smaller defensive position. Inside there is a close quarter defense position for a machine gun on the staircase. It once was connected to the tunnel system. It was blown up after the war, the damage is clearly visible.

Visit

The bunkers and tunnels are not open to roam freely. There is a serious hazard when you want to visit them without guides because the tunnels are 30 meter below the bunkers, a fall would cause serious injuries and worse. The bunkers and tunnels are a bat heaven, about 36.000 bats of different types live here.
