Sherman M4 Mine flail tank, Operation Infatuate – Westkapelle, Netherlands

The Sherman tank has stood on the dike as a war memorial since 1961. The tank came ashore in November 1944 during the Battle of the Scheldt during Operation Infatuate II. The Sherman tank was a Crab version, meaning it was fitted with minesweeping equipment. This was removed in the late 1950s.
The tank is an important symbol of the liberation of Westkapelle (Walcheren) and the Battle of the Scheldt. Its is positioned above the Dike and War Museum in Westkapelle. On the pedestal and towards the museum you find memorials of the battle and Second World War.

The Sherman M4 Mine flail tank is free to visit, it is on the dike above the Dike and War Museum.
