Mémorial Pegasus Museum – Ranville, France

Mémorial Pegasus Museum – Ranville, France

This museum is dedicated to the opening phase of Operation Overlord: the landings on the beaches of Normandy. These engagements were carried out by British paratroopers as part of Operation Tonga. During this initial stage, fighting took place at this location to secure two bridges—Pegasus Bridge and Horsa Bridge—while keeping them intact.

A unique feature of this museum is that it includes the original Pegasus Bridge. When the bridge required replacement, a replica was constructed; it was decided that the original bridge should be preserved and placed on the museum’s outdoor grounds.
