This is a photo report on the Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf. G, the Panther. It is part of Musée des Blindes, Museum of Armored Vehicles in Saumur, France, and is in running condition. In 2014 it was in the workshop being restored. New zimmerit, anti-magnetic mine paste, was applied and it looked ready for its paint job.

This Panther Ausf. G with Fahrgestellnummer 120790 (Eng. chassis number) was built by MAN at the end of July 1944. It was captured from I./Pz.Rgt.29 of Panzer Brigade.112 during the fighting at Dompaire on 13 September 1944 by the French 2e Division Blindée.
Excellent photo presentation of a PANTHER G tank. It isn’t a Panther A.
Panther A hull has a driver’s vision port . This was replaced with a periscope on the G model.
The G hull had the side panners straightened and thickened.
The turret has the single gunner sight opening in the gun mantlet, but the bulge on the lower front of the mantlet isn’t there. An “A” model gun mantlet, although not an early A as that had binocular gun sights.
Thank you for the additional information, the article has been adjusted.
