The Museum
The National Museum of Military History (NMMH) in Diekirch Luxembourg is a most beautiful museum dedicated to the Battle of the Bulge and Luxembourg’s military history up to recent times. But mostly WW2 era weapons, gear and vehicles are present in the museum. The museum has the great diorama’s which represent actual WW2 situations with the original photo’s next to it.
One of the diorama’s show elements of the US 5th Infantry Division crossing the Sauer river in Luxembourg. The US 5th Infantry Division was Mechanized and nicknamed Red Diamond or Red Devils. It entered the war in D-Day Normandy went to Metz France – Battle of the Bulge Luxembourg, crossed the Siegfried line and fought in the Ruhr Pocket Germany, they ended up in Volary and Vimprek in Czechoslovakia. After being active in Vietnam the unit was disbanded in 1992 and reflagged into the 2nd Armored Division.
The museum has a lots of unique items. Items in gear or weapon extensions. There is a surprisingly amount of vehicles and guns in and around the museum. Guns like a Flak Quadruple, Sherman, Patton C47 and M24 Walker Bulldog tanks, artillery and anti-tank guns, Halftracks, Jeeps, Trucks and more.
