Sd.Kfz. 11 a 3 ton Auto-Union Einheitsfahrerhaus Prime Mover – light German Halftrack

This Sd.Kfz. 11 is a light artillery tractor, or prime mover, with a towing capacity of 3 ton, made by Auto-Union in 1944. It was based on the standard Sd.Kfz. 11 chassis developed by Borgward.

The half-track was used extensively during World War II, primarily as a 3-ton artillery and troop transport vehicle. The Auto-Union variant featured a standardised, simplified cab design for easier production. The German term “Einheitsfahrerhaus” means it had a standard drivers cabine, both the cabin and the open flatbed were made of wood.

Powered by a Maybach NL 38 Tr 6-cylinder, 100 hp petrol engine, it had a top speed of 53 km/h (33 mph) and a range of 250 km (155 mi). With its tracked rear section, it offered excellent cross-country mobility. It could transport 8 troops or tow medium size artillery pieces. Rugged and reliable, the Sd.Kfz. 11 saw widespread use on all fronts, serving in various roles.

Nowadays Auto-Union produces commercial cars under the brand name Audi. This Sd.Kfz. 11 Auto-Union Einheitsfahrerhaus was photographed at MM Park, France.
