This type S 468 ammunition storage bunker (reg. nr. 1100 M1 / 27440) designed for 36, 38 and 40,6 cm shells was constructed here in the autumn of 1943 near the “Geschütz 1” (G1) gun emplacement of Battery Hanstholm II. The bunker measuring roughly 17,5 by 28 meters has two storeys. On the ground floor two large storage rooms for shells, a room for cartridges and a separate room for the fuses on the other side of the corridor. On a lower level it housed powder rooms together with the heating and ventilation installations.

On the ground floor two double entrance doors on opposite sides of the bunker provided access to a straight corridor fitted with tracks to allow small-gauge ammunition trains to stop and load the shells to supply the guns.

A rail transportation system installed on the bunker ceiling together with a mobile mechanical hoist was used to move the ammunition inside the bunker.

Only four of these bunkers are known to be built and all were placed at this battery. They were later additions to two S 174 ammunition bunkers already constructed in 1941. With their 3,5 meters thick concrete walls and roof (Baustärke A) they are among the heaviest fortified structures of the battery.

Visit

Although today the N26 road runs over the top of the bunker, it seems to be intact. You can visit this bunker freely, but it is not accessible to the public. To see its interior, visit the S 468 near the G3 gun emplacement of Hanstholm II on the grounds of Bunkermuseum Hanstholm.
