The heavy Field Howitzer D-1 fired a 152.4 mm caliber shell, 40 kilograms in weight over a distance of 12.4 km. The D-1 was manufactured from 1943 until 1949 and only produced in small number, 2827 guns produced. The reason for this was that the same factory, the No. 9 Plant was ordered to mass produce the 122 mm Howitzer M1938 (M-30) as well. The 152 mm Howitzer M1943 D-1 used the same carriage as the 122 mm M-30 howitzer.
