The Mercedes-Benz L 1500 is a light truck that Daimler-Benz built for the German Wehrmacht and for the fire brigade during World War II.

Variants

Daimler-Benz AG manufactured approximately 9,000 units of the L 1500 between 1941 and 1944. This type was available in two variants: the four-wheel drive model L 1500 A and the rear-wheel drive model L 1500 S. With approximately 4,900  copies, the Mercedes-Benz L 1500 A is the most built variant, which was mainly produced as a personnel carrier for the Wehrmacht. Of the approximately 4,100 made as L 1500 S about 3,600 were built as light fire engines.

The Mercedes-Benz L 1500 A as a Wehrmacht personnel carrier. The L 1500 S is a two-axle tractor. It is built on a ladder frame. The engine is the R6 petrol engine Mercedes-Benz M 159 with a carburetor, producing 60 hp (44 kW) from a displacement of 2.6 l. Power is transmitted via a four-speed manual gearbox. The wheels with tire size 190-20 are equipped with drum brakes. The Mercedes-Benz L 1500 A with all-wheel drive differs from the L 1500 S in that it has a driven front axle, a transfer case with off-road reduction, greater ground clearance and wider tires. The payload was increased by 180 kg to 4080 kg. Its fuell tank had a capactity of 70 liters and an action radius of 370 kilomters on road and 230 kilometers off road. The topspeed was 84 kilomters on road and 60 off road. It had an crew of 2 and could transport 7 soldiers.
