Another version of the 8 ton German Halftrack Sd.Kfz.7 is the armored halftrack with a 3.7 cm FlaK gun, designated Sd.Kfz. 7/2. This version was equipped with a 3,7 cm FlaK 36 anti-aircraft gun for air defense. The 1550 kilogram gun had a firing range of almost 8000 meters but an effective range of 4200 meters.
Produced by Krauss-Maffei and other manufacturers, it was powered by a Maybach HL 62 TUK 6-cylinder, 140 hp petrol engine, giving it a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) and a range of 250 km (155 mi). The FlaK 36 gun had a rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute and an effective ceiling of 4,800 meters (15,750 feet) against aircraft. The vehicle could carry a gun crew of up to 7 men and had an open cargo area for ammunition storage. Some later models featured an armored cab for additional protection with up to 8mm of armor. The Sd.Kfz. 7/2 was widely deployed, providing vital air defense for German mechanized units.
