Jagdpanther V Tank Destroyer

The Jagdpanther V was a German tank destroyer developed during World War II, based on the chassis of the Panther medium tank. It was designed to address the need for a powerful, mobile anti-tank vehicle capable of engaging enemy armor at long ranges. The Jagdpanther was introduced in 1944 and became one of the most feared German tank destroyers due to its combination of heavy firepower, solid armor, and mobility.

Powered by a Maybach HL 230 P30 V12 gasoline engine, producing 700 horsepower, the Jagdpanther had a top speed of 46 km/h (29 mph) and a range of 200 km (124 miles). Its chassis, based on the Panther, allowed for excellent mobility on varied terrain.

The Jagdpanther V was armed with the powerful 75mm Pak 42 L/70 gun, one of the most effective anti-tank guns of the war. This weapon was capable of destroying most Allied tanks at long distances. The vehicle’s front armor was up to 80mm thick, sloped for better protection, while the sides were 50mm thick. This made it resistant to many anti-tank weapons, though it was vulnerable to artillery fire.

With a crew of 4 (commander, gunner, driver, and loader), the Jagdpanther V was highly effective on the battlefield, seeing use in the Eastern Front, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge, proving to be a formidable force against Allied tanks.
