Сталинец-60, C-60

The Stalinets-60 or S-60 was a Russian heavy artillery tractor named after Joseph Stalin. Russia bought foreign tractors from 1920 on for testing purposes. They bought tractors from the German Hanomag and the American Caterpillar companies. The Russians built their tractor based on the Caterpillar 60 with a Petrol engine, just like the Americans did back then. The Сталинец-60 short C-60 (Russian) was built from 1931 to 1937 and used for pulling heavy artillery pieces. It was built by the Chelyabinskiy traktornyy zavod, the tractor plant in Chelyabinsk designated as factory no. 100.

Later version of the C-60 were powered by a diesel engine and a few were gas powered (CG-60 or Eng. SG-60). It was 4 meters long, 2,4 meters wide and 2,8 meters high and was open topped. It weighed 9500 kilograms. It had a four-cylinder petrol engine with 60 HP and a top speed of 6 to 8,4 km/h and reached a pulling force of 5,5 tons.

It was followed up by the the Stalinets-65, C-65 (Eng. S-65) heavy tractor in 1937.
